Roe v. Wade has been the target of the Republican party for many years, and the Supreme Court has done its bidding. I am angry but even more motivated to ensure that the women of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania continue to have the ability to make the health decisions for their lives. I fought for this ability for women in 1973, and 50 years later, I am willing to step up again.
Overturning Roe v Wade is, at the very least, an invasion of the privacy afforded under HIPAA. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a federal law that “establishes national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge.” I cannot imagine anything more sensitive than the decisions related to an individual’s ability to decide whether to continue or end a pregnancy.
I am running for PA 28th Senate district. We have discovered that simply “electing women” is not enough, as my opponent Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill has already co-sponsored legislation that would limit a woman’s ability to determine healthcare considerations. We must have the ability to decide on our own lives, and we must VOTE!
